Are Prophetic Dreams and Visions Scriptural?
Let us look at three Scriptures quickly which confirm this, even though you probably already believe they are.
Numbers 12:6 says:
And he said, Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, [I] the Lord [Yahweh] will make myself known to him in a vision, [and] will speak to him in a dream.
Job 33:15 says:
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
The last one is from Acts 2:17. It is probably the most definitive verse on this subject. It says:
And it will occur in the End Times, says God, that I will pour out from my Spirit onto every kind of person: and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young people will see visions, and your seniors will have dreams:
Dreaming is something common to all creatures not only in human, but also in animals.
Visions Are Natural
If you are human, you have already had visions. You probably just did not realize they were visions.
Conscious vs. Sub-Conscious Mind
We have three parts to our being – spirit, soul and body. The sub-conscious mind lies between the spirit and the soul. The conscious mind lies between the soul and the body.
Analogy of a Computer
The conscious and sub-conscious minds are like the different kinds of memory in a computer. The conscious mind is like the RAM which is the operating memory in a computer. The sub-conscious mind is like the hard drive, where all data is stored for future use.
How Natural Visions Work
Data that is in our minds passes down to be stored in the sub-conscious mind. When that data comes up again into our conscious minds, it produces a natural vision.
Familiar to You
Natural visions are seldom original. They are based on what you saw before and stored in your sub-conscious mind. So these visions always contain things familiar to you.
You can create a natural vision by an act of your will using the process of visualization. Such a vision can be used as an illustration in preaching and teaching to explain other principles.
Real Not Symbolic
A natural vision is never symbolic, though it can be used as an allegory or illustration if you make it that way. It is always based on real things, and not on imaginary things
