Divine Supernatural Dreams vs. Demonic Supernatural Dreams
Divine Supernatural Dreams
As mentioned in the last chapter, there are two kinds of supernatural dream.
Supernatural Dreams in Unbelievers
Divine supernatural dreams are mostly given to believers. But as I said in the last chapter, He may also at times give supernatural dreams to unbelievers.
When He gives a dream to an unbeliever He has a purpose in it, often for believers who know that person. The person who has the dream will need a believer to interpret it for them.
Related to the Future
Divine supernatural dreams come with the word of wisdom and tend to have a future orientation. They are one way God gives us wisdom to prepare for the future.
This does not mean that the dream is a prediction. When God shows the future, He intends us to do something about it. It is not just the knowledge that something will happen.
Directive in Nature
We can also get direction from a spiritual dream, but in the supernatural dream it is God who is giving specific direction.
He may give direction concerning your ministry or calling. This direction is always very specific.
Pointing to Change in Direction
God may give this dream to change your direction. This happened to Paul when he was shown to go to Macedonia by a night vision or dream.
God can speak to you in a vision or through a journal. But if He really needs to get your attention He may use a supernatural dream.
Supernatural dreams for believers can have a warning. There is usually a future orientation and you are warned against somthing that could happen.
God never reveals the future just for our interest. And when you see a future event it does not mean that this will happen. It means that this could happen unless you do something about it.
Meant to Take Action
Your supernatural warning dream should always lead to some kind of action. Let’s look at a classic one in Matthew 2:13 after Jesus was born.
And when they had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and remain there until I tell you otherwise: for Herod plans to search for the young child to destroy him.
They had to take Jesus to safety because something was going to happen.
Revealing the Future
God can reveal in a supernatural dream what is going to happen in the future.
But never forget the following:
Only God Can Predict the Future.
Only God knows the end from the beginning.
Satan does not know the future. He can only guess at it, or he can try and create it, but God is the only one who knows what the future holds.
No Fine Details
Often future dreams do not have fine details. If God shows you that you will be married, He will not show you the exact person you will marry.
He often leaves it open for us to make our own choices. He does not give specific details, like dates. So do not be led astray by so called prophetic predictions that give such details.
A Call to Take Action
When God gives a prediction, He wants you to do something about it.
When Agabus stood up and declared there was going to be an economic recession to use modern terms, the churches immediately gathered together and made a plan of action.
Interpreting for Unbelievers
God can also give a predictive vision to an unbeliever. When that happens, somebody has to interpret that dream.
We see a perfect example of this in the Old Testament, where Joseph and Daniel both had an ability to give interpretations of supernatural dreams.
Pharaoh tried to get his wise men to interpret his dream. And if it was a normal internal dream they might have. But since it was supernatural, only Joseph could interpret it.
It was part of God’s plan to bring Joseph into place.
Wisdom to Interpret
When a prophet gets a supernatural dream, he doesn’t need an interpretation.
However, he or she may need wisdom on how to go about sharing that dream with others.
When He gives it to the prophet, it is part of the function of the prophet to speak God’s Word into the earth.
This is a very powerful part of the prophetic toolkit as I said before. Divine supernatural dreams are a very important part of our ministry in the prophetic realm. You should never avoid it or be afraid of it.
You should embrace it and ask God for it. And you should learn how to use it correctly.
